Gary Holmes: Music

Crosshouse Night

(Gary Paul Holmes)
7. Cross House Night

Story:

So many people and so many stories all in one place. My older brother Darryl was an all night security guard at an apartment building one summer. Sometimes I would follow him to work. The people who lived there were like clockwork--same people, same place, same time. I was never there to see what happened in the day light . I guess that would be a different story and a different song. That place existed for me only at night.

Lyrics:

Taxi Man
Doggy Man
Dark small place universal plan
Slick head guy, with his wife
Here is where they live their life
A lady sings
The Jazz Man swings
They bring music, to all the wings
Parkings free, dim street light, the cool breeze blows
Cross House Night

See the people
say hello
They’ll all smile
Then they’ll go

The night will leave
The house will leave
The little man and his dogs will leave
Reality falls, through time’s great sieve

At the end of day
Comes the night
At the end of day
Comes the night
When you’re there
Cross House Night
When you’re there
Cross House Night

(repeat)

Cool breeze blows
Dim street light
The day is done
Cross House Night

The night will leave
The house will leave
The little man and his dogs will leave
Reality falls, through time’s great sieve

(repeat verse 1)

The night will leave
The house will leave
The little man and his dogs will leave.
Parkings free, dim street light, the day is done.
Cross House Night.
