Gary Holmes: Music
Miss Havisham
(Gary Paul Holmes)
8. Miss Havisham
Story:
A broken heart takes a long time to heal, if at all. For a long time I took a very condescending position towards this Dickens' character (Miss Havisham). I later realized that getting past a monumental disappointment is easier said than done, and I have never even been jilted at the marital alter. Miss Havisham was. It takes time, good friends, and most importantly, God. Still, we are better off counting the today's blessings, rather than focusing on the disappointments of the past.
Lyrics:
Miss Havisham why are you alone?
Always sitting in your big dark home.
Miss Havisham, you know there’s sunlight out,
but for years you haven’t left your dusty house.
On her table sits, a wedding cake
Many years have passed since it was baked
On her back she wears, a yellow dress
Twenty years ago it was the store’s best
In Miss Havisham are two broken hearts
Once by her lover and twice by her own part
CHORUS:
Miss Havisham won’t you come outside?
Miss Havisham pass the alter by.
Miss Havisham throwing life away
Don’t waste tomorrow changing yesterday
When she realized it was too late
Tripped from her chair into the fireplace
Now she lies dead atop her wedding cake,
Oh Miss Havisham
